QUEEN’S PARK – The McGuinty Liberals must explain why they accepted more than $12,000 in political contributions from the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), NDP Critic Michael Prue said today.
“These donations show the provincial Liberals were given a lift by an organization most Ontarians thought was non-partisan,” Prue said.
“The public has a right to know what the GTAA requested of the McGuinty government for these donations, and what it was promised in return.”
The GTAA is a non-profit organization governed by a board comprised of appointees named by the provincial, federal and local municipal governments.
Prue noted today during Question Period that the GTAA has contributed $12,785 to the Ontario Liberals since 2006.
Passengers flying through Toronto pay some of the highest airport fees in the world – and expect that those funds don’t end up in political coffers, he said.
“These donations have flown under the radar, but Ontario families deserve to know the truth,” said Prue.
“Why did the Ontario Liberals accept this money and what were they asked to give back in return for this partisan dough?”
