CONSTITUENCY ASSISTANT – OUTREACH/CASEWORK

Full Time, 32.5 hours per week

Objectives: To assist the Member by completing assigned casework and outreach duties.

Responsible to Member for:

1. Preparing, gathering, maintaining and compiling research material as
requested by Member to aid in communicating with constituents and
organizations in the constituency and promoting NDP positions.

2. Responding to requests for research or information from the Member’s
constituents.

3. Preparing correspondence for Member.

4. Keeping informed in all policy areas assigned by Member and liaising
with interest groups within the constituency.

5. Dealing with enquiries and solving problems (case work) referred by Member for follow-up. Contacting constituents by telephone, writing, and in person. Contacting senior government personnel, officials from outside organizations, local government, the media, etc.

6. Preparing all documentation related to casework.

7. Attending, or preparing Member to attend, as required, appeals and/or
hearings (WSIB, etc).

8. Other duties as assigned by the Member

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, appropriate to the position, of the NDP and/or the Canadian labour movement, of the Ontario government and public affairs. Ability to write articles and reports, to meet deadlines, produce accurate work and maintain organized records. Knowledge of certain fields assigned. Ability to understand and prepare cases and to advocate effectively on behalf of the Member’s constituents. Excellent Computer skills. Familiarity with Member’s constituency and portfolio areas and experience in NDP organizations, Ontario Government and election campaigns would be an asset. Proficiency in languages other then English is desired.
