“We owe it to all Ontarians, especially women, to make sure what happened to Laurie Johnston will never happen again,” said Horwath.
In April 2008, an investigation into a Grey Bruce Health Services pathologist found that he had made the wrong diagnosis 36 times. These errors included missed cancer diagnoses.
“In the wake of the investigation in Grey Bruce, what action did this government take to ensure that the same thing would never happen again?” asked Horwath during today’s Question Period.
Shockingly, both Premier Dalton McGuinty and Health Minister Deb Matthews appeared unprepared to answer questions relating to the Grey Bruce investigation.
Horwath noted that the similarities between Grey Bruce and Windsor were striking and troubling. In both cases, local hospitals found potentially serious and significant pathology errors.
“How many more investigations need to take place before this government realizes there’s a systemic problem with pathology in this province?” asked Horwath.
