Queen’s Park – After refusing to provide a cost estimate to the media yesterday, Duguid said in response to a question from NDP Energy Critic Peter Tabuns that the refurbishment would cost up to $10-billion.
Tabuns had raised concern that the government is planning to move ahead with the refurbishment without a clear indication of its cost.
“Given the rising cost of nuclear energy and Ontario’s history of cost overruns as well as safety concerns related to nuclear, the McGuinty government has a responsibility to be open and forthright about the costs of new nuclear projects – and the cost of greener alternatives,” said Tabuns.
In his response, Duguid refused to commit to protecting Ontarians from cost overruns associated with the Darlington rebuild.
