QUEEN’S PARK – NDP Tourism Critic Paul Miller is appalled that Ontario’s official tourism website is hosted by a company in Michigan.
“The McGuinty government can’t find an Ontario company to host its own tourism website?” said Miller. “This just boggles the mind! Who’d think you’d have to connect through Michigan to discover Ontario! It’s appalling and an absolute embarrassment.”
New Democrats today revealed that the official Ontario Tourism website – www.ontariotravel.net – and at least eight other related tourism website addresses are run by a company located in suburban Detroit.
“Even the government’s slick tourism commercials feature the Michigan-hosted website. This makes one thing certain, there’s definitely no place like this,” said Miller, evoking Ontario Tourism’s official slogan.
New Democrats have long advocated a “Buy Ontario” policy for government procurement.
“Such a policy would keep tax dollars here at home, creating jobs and investment in Ontario. And it would have prevented this latest embarrassment for a McGuinty government that ought to be red-faced by now,” said Miller.
