"It’s time working families got a fair deal. Dalton McGuinty’s record has been one broken promise after another. But he still found time to give himself a $40,000 pay raise. That’s someone who has lost touch with working families. We deserve better.
"I’m proud to stand with Howard Hampton – a leader who is upfront, honest, and principled. You know you can count on us to stand up for seniors, children, parents, and working people.
"This time, ask yourself ‘Which leader and party can I count on to fight for a fair deal for working families?’
"I hope I can count on your support on October 10."
Paul Ferreira is running for re-election in York South-Weston. It’s where he lives. It’s where he works. It’s where he fights to make life better for ordinary working people every single day.
The newest NDP MPP, on February 8, 2007, Paul was elected to represent York South Weston at Queen’s Park. He previously worked for the Canadian Society for Training and Development, where he managed member relations and edited the Canadian Learning Journal, a national publication for workplace training professionals.
Paul is an active, dedicated member of our community. He founded the “Take Back Weston Road” initiative to attract good jobs and create economic prosperity for everyone. He is a member and supporter of the Weston-King Neighbourhood Centre, the Learning Enrichment Foundation, the Weston Historical Society, and the ACORN Weston Chapter. Paul sponsors a local minor baseball team and for the past three years has organized a community clean-up day.
Paul is a former board member of Sojourn House, the City of Toronto’s only housing shelter dedicated to assisting refugees. He also sat on the board of a city-wide neighbourhood resource centre, where he learned first-hand about the needs of new immigrants, single parents, at-risk youth and seniors. He helped create the Toronto West Social Action Group, a community organization that campaigned for social justice and mobilized hundreds of residents to protest provincial government cutbacks.
Paul understands diversity is our greatest strength. Like most of us who call York South-Weston home, Paul is an immigrant. He came to Canada from the Azores, Portugal, when he was just six years old. Watching his parents struggle to make ends meet in a new country convinced Paul everyone in our community who works hard and plays by the rules deserves to share in this country’s immense prosperity and opportunity.
Paul is an honours graduate of Carleton University’s School of Journalism, where he received awards for academic excellence and community involvement. He speaks English, French and Portuguese.
