Newly elected NDP MPP Paul Ferreira today announced he will invest the first installment of his MPP pay raise in the youth of York South-Weston.
"During the recent by-election, I promised to invest every last cent of the McGuinty pay raise to the people of my riding. Today, I’m proud to announce I am donating my first month’s raise to the For Youth Initiative (FYI) and Weston Collegiate Institute’s Jazz Concert Band,” said Ferreira.
Ferreira’s contributions will assist FYI, a youth-run agency that uses pop culture to engage young people, with their activities and programs. They will also support the Weston Collegiate Institute’s award-winning Jazz Concert Band as it prepares for an international competition in Washington, D.C., in April.
“During the election, I said building hope for young people is more important than a $40,000 raise for Dalton McGuinty. I meant it,” Ferreira said.
The York South-Weston MPP vowed to continue fighting at Queen’s Park to make life better for young people.
“I look forward to fighting to make life more affordable for York South-Weston’s working families by fighting for a fair $10 minimum wage, by holding landlords to account for poor maintenance and fighting for new, affordable housing,” Ferreira said.
