May 14, 2009 - 5:00pm

Today, MPP Cheri DiNovo introduced the first ‘Girl’s Government’ project, which has been started in Parkdale-High Park with students from Fern and Parkdale Public Schools. DiNovo began the project in September of 2008 and the girls have been meeting monthly.

Today, the Girls will be at Queen’s Park to tour, attend question period and a press conference at 10:00am in the media studio. In two weeks, the girls go to Ottawa to witness the House of Commons in action.

Cheri DiNovo, Women’s Critic for the NDP, began the project to involve girls in the political process. Every year two more elementary schools will be invited to nominate girls to take part. The girls will be followed through a dedicated Facebook site to see if the experience encourages future political involvement.

“It is encouraging to see so many intelligent and energetic young women thinking about politics,” said DiNovo.
