Ontario NDP Leader Howard Hampton issued the following statement on the cyclone in Burma and the resulting devastation:

“I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the people of Burma who have just experienced the horrific destruction caused by the cyclone. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of great need.

Burma has suffered painful losses and the pain extends to the Burmese communities in Ontario. New Democrats stand with you in this moment of grief.

I do want to encourage all Ontarians to contribute to the relief effort by making a financial contribution to the charitable organization of your choice. Our gifts can make a huge difference in the lives of many who now find themselves without nourishment or shelter.”
