McGUINTY GOVERNMENT ADDICTED TO SECRECY

Today’s report by the Information Privacy Commissioner Ann Cavoukian reveals a McGuinty government that is addicted to secrecy, NDP Leader Howard Hampton says.

“The Privacy Commissioner’s report is a scathing indictment of how Dalton McGuinty is letting down ordinary families,” said Hampton.

Several Freedom of Information requests have revealed a pattern of the McGuinty government hiding information from the public.

· Colle-gate: Year-end slush funds were given to Liberal-friendly multicultural organizations without the trouble of an application form – due diligence – due process – transparency – or accountability.

· Flight logs: The McGuinty government refuses to provide flight logs on the use of the government planes, review of flights, and access for the public on costs.

· Attorney General vs IPC/Shelley Martel: McGuinty government launched legal action against the Privacy Commissioner and NDP MPP Shelley Martel to hide how much money it’s squandering on lawyers instead of providing IBI therapy to autistic children.

“This is about fairness, transparency and responsibility – all of which the McGuinty Liberals are fatally flawed at. Dalton McGuinty broke his promise of more transparent government. Working families deserve better,” said Hampton.
