NDP Justice critic Peter Kormos demanded Dalton McGuinty initiate a full public inquiry into what led to a court ruling that stayed numerous charges against a group of Toronto drug squad officers.
“Under Dalton McGuinty, justice is not only blind, it’s also ineffective,” said Kormos.
The NDP Justice critic said that delays resulting in stayed charges amount to a crisis in Ontario’s criminal justice system.
“This is a matter of public safety and confidence that cries out for a full public inquiry. It’s incomprehensible that the biggest police corruption case in Canadian history ends in charges thrown out on the basis of unreasonable delay by the Attorney General. How could such an important prosecution fall through the cracks?” asked Kormos.
“This is about public safety and confidence, accountability and responsibility – all of which Dalton McGuinty is fatally flawed at,” Kormos said.
