NDP MPP Gilles Bisson today invited motorists to fight back against gas-price gouging by taking part in "Pump Shock in pictures" - an NDP campaign that lets everyday Ontarians blow the whistle on Ontario's worst gas-price rip-off artists.

Bisson is inviting motorists to put big oil and gas companies on the hot seat by e-mailing him pictures of gas-price rip-offs in their community. The worst rip-offs will be inducted into the Pump Shock Hall of Shame.

"High gas prices got you down? Now is your chance to fight back and say enough is enough. Take part in the NDP's 'Pump Shock in pictures' campaign. Send in photographs. Tell us your story. Together, we'll take this fight to the big gas companies and to the premier - and we'll get the people of Ontario fair, stable and predictable prices at the pumps," Bisson said.

Bisson and the NDP are championing regulating gas price. Gas price regulation is a fresh idea that will make a real difference for drivers. It will stop gas price volatility, eliminate opportunistic price gouging and deliver fair, stable and predictable fuel prices - and lower gas prices over the long haul. Ontario is the only province east of Manitoba with no form of gas price regulation.

The NDP’s campaign against price gauging was given an added boost yesterday by a report released by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives that says Canadians are being gouged at the gas pumps, paying in excess of 15 cents a litre more for gasoline than justified by costs and historic petroleum industry profit margins.

"What's more important - Big oil and gas companies making huge profits or protecting average Ontarians who are getting ripped off at the pump?" Bisson said.

"Dalton McGuinty has made his choice. He's letting big oil and gas get away with highway robbery. New Democrats take a different approach. We think it's time for gas price regulation to ensure fair, stable and predictable gas prices for Ontario's hard-working families," he said.
