NDP MPP Michael Prue says Dalton McGuinty is responsible for the slush funds handed out by his government without fairness or transparency - and McGuinty's Liberal Party should be forced to repay grants.

"Dalton McGuinty personally handed out millions in slush funds and now he claims he can't get it back. If the McGuinty Liberals are responsible the McGuinty Liberals should pay the money," said Prue. "It's time for McGuinty to tell Ontario families: when will the money be repaid and who will repay it?"

Yesterday, McGuinty said his government would look at recovering funds granted by his government in a process the Auditor General slammed as "not open, transparent or accountable." However, media reports indicate that senior government officials are already admitting that they won't be legally able to get any money back.

"If Dalton McGuinty thinks he can spend the next three months dragging out a review until after the election he's mistaken. Ontario families won't be fooled," said Prue.

"These funds need to be recovered, and a truly fair and accessible grants program should be created," said Prue.
