Mary Hynes is running because the McGuinty Liberals have shown, through their broken promises and failure to take action on issues that really matter to working families, that they have taken the voters of Don Valley East for granted.
Mary has lived in the community for over thirty years since immigrating from the United States in the early 1970s. As a retired special education teacher Mary is committed to strengthening the public education system and restoring funding to special education. Mary has taught every age and type of student and is intimately familiar with all areas of our public education system and its needs.
Mary is on the Board of Directors of the Duncan Mill Labourers Local 183 Housing Co-op, she is a past-secretary for the Provincial Council of the Older Women’s Network and has a Certificate in Special Effects Makeup Artistry from Seneca College.
A great lover of the outdoors, Mary is an active canoer and cross-country skier. She enjoys gardening and is an active member of her community garden.
An avid hiker, in 2004 Mary walked across Spain for five weeks following the pilgrimage trail of the Camino de Santiago.
Mary has an adult son, Douglas.
