John Vanthof and his wife Ria have owned and operated a dairy farm just north of Earlton for over twenty years. They have four children under the age of twenty who were all raised and schooled in the local community.

A committed farm leader, John will be a strong voice for Ontario’s farming families. He has been a director of the Dairy Farmers of Ontario for the last three years where he represented producers from Northern Ontario and was the Chair of the Raw Milk Quality Committee. John also played a pivotal role in the rebirth of a local cheese producer, Thornloe.

Prior to his acclamation to the Dairy Farmers Board, John served four terms as a municipal councillor for Evanturel Township, including three terms on the Board of the Timiskaming Municipal Association. John is currently President of the Board of the Timiskaming Federation of Agriculture and is widely recognized for his work as a leader in the fight against the Adams Mine and Bennet Incinerator.

John is running as the NDP candidate for Timiskaming Cochrane because Dalton McGuinty has let down Northern Ontario and has let down Ontario’s farming families. John is eager to go to Queen’s Park, represent the working families of his community and stand up for fairness.
