Biography:

"It’s time working families got a fair deal. Dalton McGuinty’s record has been one broken promise after another. But he still found time to give himself a $40,000 pay raise. That’s someone who has lost touch with working families. We deserve better.

"I’m proud to stand with Howard Hampton – a leader who is upfront, honest, and principled. You know you can count on us to stand up for seniors, children, parents, and working people.

"This time, ask yourself ‘Which leader and party can I count on to fight for a fair deal for working families?’

"I hope I can count on your support on October 10."

Peter Kormos burst on the Queen's Park scene in 1988 and has made his presence strongly felt in the Legislature and in the Niagara Region, where he is the MPP for Niagara Centre.

A popular and outspoken MPP, Peter is known throughout Ontario as a champion for justice for working families. He is NDP critic for the Attorney General, Solicitor General, Corrections, Government Propaganda and Labour. Peter was the Minister of Consumer and Commercial Relations when the NDP was in government.

Peter has an impressive career history. He's a seasoned criminal lawyer, a former Welland City Councillor and an active community volunteer. Active in the Big Brothers movement and Community Legal Services in Niagara, Peter is an Osgoode Law School graduate with a B.A. from York University, as well as social work accreditation from Niagara College. He was called to the bar in 1980.

A maverick, a firebrand and an all-around going concern, one thing Peter isn't is dull. He's the man who blew the whistle on the Harris government's inept Family Responsibility Office. He was then subjected to intimidation by the Harris government, including a bogus arrest and charges that were later thrown out by the courts.

In 1992, Peter became the only Canadian to be awarded the "Amicus Curiae Award" by the Association of Trial Lawyers of America in Washington, D.C. Peter was the first to call for a public inquiry into the O.P.P. shooting of an unarmed Native Canadian, Dudley George, at Ipperwash Provincial Park.

Always energetic, uncompromising and principled, Peter is a proud standard-bearer of NDP values and will continue to work hard for working families, if re-elected in the riding of Welland.
