Access to justice for all Ontarians a priority: Kormos

NDP Justice critic Peter Kormos says the McGuinty Liberals have failed to ensure access to justice for working families.

"I want to thank the Hon. Mr. Coulter Osborne for the work on his report,” said Kormos.

The NDP Justice critic was commenting on the summary of findings and recommendations from the Civil Justice Reform Project released today.

Kormos said the overarching issue is access to justice for both represented and unrepresented litigants. For the vast majority of Ontarians, recourse to the justice system and getting a fair hearing and having one's "day in court" simply isn't an option.

New Democrats insist that Alternative Dispute Resolution become more available to litigants.

“Most can't afford even the initial lawyer's consultation, not to mention a day in court. The answer is to give ordinary folks affordable and accessible ways to resolve disputes and get a fair hearing,” said Kormos.
