On the eve of International Women’s Day, NDP Women’s Issues Critic Cheri DiNovo called on the McGuinty Liberals to keep its promise to introduce a Women’s and Gender Studies Course into the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum.
“Social and economic equality, and safety must start with education,” said DiNovo. “For years, The Miss G__ Project has campaigned to get a Women’s & Gender Studies Course into the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum. But despite promises from the McGuinty Liberals, nothing has happened.”
DiNovo was joined by representatives from the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association and The Miss G__Project. The Miss G__ Project for Equity in Education is a grassroots young feminist organization working to combat all forms of oppression in and through education.
“If the McGuinty Liberals were serious about women’s safety and economic well-being, they would offer an education program devoted to issues affecting women historically and globally,” said DiNovo.
