March 21st 2008

New Democrats join with people of Persian heritage around the world, and here in Ontario, to celebrate Nowruz, the Persian New Year.

This is a joyous celebration of renewal and hope for the future – bringing family, friends and community members together to mark the beginning of a New Year. Individuals of many backgrounds and faiths observe the time-honoured holiday of Nowruz, which has been celebrated for thousands of years. This celebration contributes to the diversity of people and tradition that makes our province strong and vibrant.

New Democrats are committed to ensuring that all Ontarians have the freedom and opportunity to benefit from the possibilities we have. This includes maintaining good jobs and a healthy economy, protecting publicly funded, high-quality healthcare and education, and fighting for a living wage.

We hope that this Nowruz marks a renewed effort to work hand-in-hand to make positive changes for all who call Ontario home. Together, we can work to ensure that no dream is beyond reach.

To all those observing this day, New Democrats extend their best wishes for a healthy and prosperous new year. Nowruz Mubarak!
