NDP MPP Paul Miller went after the McGuinty Liberals today for their sorry record of job losses across Hamilton-Niagara.
“What is this government going to do to stem the tide of lost jobs in Hamilton, St. Catharines and elsewhere?” asked Miller during Question Period.
Miller referenced recent job losses at National Steel Car in Hamilton and TeleSpectrum in St. Catharines.
“I am very concerned for the workers who have seen their jobs disappear. These two companies alone account for another 500 jobs lost last week. And the future looks even worse,” said Miller.
He was unsatisfied with the McGuinty government’s response that it is investing in skills training.
“I’m glad the Minister is going to train a lot of people, but I hate to inform him that we’ve got lots of trained people in Hamilton who are unemployed,” said Miller.
“The Minister’s response gives no real plan, no hope of immediate action to help stem the tide of job losses. What Ontario needs is the NDP’s plan: a ‘Buy Ontario’ policy, investment of all transferred and promised federal funds in our hard hit communities now, and the creation of a refundable manufacturing investment tax credit.”
