Hampton: McGuinty’s economic policies failing Ontarians

NDP Leader Howard Hampton said Dalton McGuinty’s wrong-headed economic policies are failing and Ontarians are feeling the squeeze.

”The McGuinty Liberals’ mismanagement of the economy has resulted in far more damage than just 200,000 lost manufacturing jobs. Day after day, Ontarians are watching a small slice of their dreams slowly fade away as they watch their wages decrease, their cost of living increase and their pensions disappear,” said Hampton.

Hampton noted a Statistics Canada reported that family incomes are falling all over Ontario.

"Families who work hard, play by the rules and pay their taxes are struggling to get by because the McGuinty Liberals are cracking the economic backbone of entire communities," he said.

Over the past six months, New Democrats have consistently put forward positive solutions to reverse the slide in living standards across Ontario, such as: an industrial hydro rate, a refundable manufacturing investment tax credit, a real 50 per cent Buy Ontario program, and a card certification program that would ensure that workers aren’t toiling away for low wages and without good benefits.

“With Dalton McGuinty’s mismanagement of the Ontario economy, food and housing prices rising and incomes falling, Ontarians are feeling the squeeze,” said Hampton.
