Toronto-Danforth NDP MPP Peter Tabuns applauds the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on the excellent report they have provided with recommendations to protect Asian anglers from further discrimination and racist attacks.

The report, Fishing Without Fear, sets out the reality of race-based attacks against Asian anglers and makes practical recommendations for action to protect people in future. The report lists the commitments from numerous bodies to carry forward the recommendations.

“I call on the McGuinty government to ensure that the recommendations are actually carried out and that people are protected from racist attacks,” said Tabuns, the NDP’s Critic for Citizenship and Immigration.

He added: “Asian anglers need protection not only through police action but through a broad social initiative to push back against racism. We will be watching to see that the McGuinty government actually sees the commitments made in the report are carried through to action.”
