The ever increasing culture cuts at the federal level are taking an enormous toll on the arts and culture industries in Ontario. The McGuinty government should put its words into action and support Ontario's artists and cultural industries, says Ontario NDP Culture critic Peter Tabuns. Minister Carroll's disappointment and concern won't solve the problems affecting our economy and certainly won't help move Ontario to the forefront of the new media industry.
Tabuns called on McGuinty to immediately make up for the Harper cuts to Ontario's arts and culture sector. "Our arts and cultural industries employ hundreds of thousands in Ontario and are a critical part of our economy. The McGuinty governments laissez faire attitude is not the leadership that Ontario needs when our economy is in trouble," said Tabuns.
Ontario's arts sector is too important to the economy to be left untended, explained Tabuns. Investing in new media and arts marketing is critical to the success and jobs of many Ontarians. "McGuinty can simply complain about Harper or he can make smart investments into the sector," said Tabuns.
