Dear Mr. Bentley:
Re: Katelynn Sampson and Justice Debra Paulseth
The February 19, 2008, May 14, 2008, and June 6, 2008 transcripts of the proceedings about the custody of Katelynn Sampson before Justice Debra Paulseth reveal an alarming absence of any consideration of the best interests of Katelynn Sampson. Justice Paulseth appears to have dealt with the matter of this child's custody in a cavalier and overly-casual manner. She did not employ any of the tools available to the court to determine the appropriateness of a proposed custodial parent. Katelynn Sampson had every right to expect high standards in the conduct of the judge who approved her custodial placement.
I submit to you that Justice Paulseth failed to meet even a minimal standard. Please refer this matter to the Ontario Judicial Council so that it can investigate and determine if Justice Paulseth's conduct of this case constituted judicial misconduct and neglect of duty on her part.
Sincerely yours,
Peter Kormos
