SENIORS AND FAMILIES CAN'T TRUST McGUINTY'S LONG-TERM CARE PROMISES

NDP MPP Rosario Marchese says the McGuinty government’s long term care announcement shouldn’t be believed.

“The McGuinty Liberals had four years to address the many problems facing seniors in long term care,” said Marchese. “They ignored seniors and long term care advocates until they came face to face with a general election.”

“Ontario’s seniors have worked hard all their lives and deserve more than empty promises. Why should they believe Dalton McGuinty now after four years of broken promises on long term care?”

Marchese called this week’s haphazard long term care announcements “damage control” by a McGuinty government desperate to erase its shoddy record on services for seniors.

“Helping a loved one survive the inadequacies of the long-term care system, the lack of adequate support and services, the long waits for even a tiny amount of home care - it’s exhausting and people have had enough,” said Marchese. He said voters will hold the McGuinty Liberals accountable for their broken promises to seniors: “This is not a government announcement. It’s a preelection promise by a Liberal party notorious for promise-breaking. Ontario seniors and their families deserve better.”
