Did you know that inmates in prison get twice as much money for food as Ontario seniors in long-term care?
It’s true. Provincial inmates get $11.43 for food a day. Seniors get $5.57.
New Democrats stand up for seniors. We believe they should be able to retire in dignity – because they’re our friends, family and neighbours – and because it’s the least we owe the people who built this province.
Dalton McGuinty promised positive change. Instead of progress, we’re seeing the same old approach – governments leaving seniors to live in miserable conditions, stripped of their dignity and unable to participate in the basic elements of daily life.
Improving long-term care for seniors is a fresh idea.
Let’s establish a minimum standard of care for seniors. Let’s hire more health care workers to care for seniors. Let’s increase funding for seniors’ services. Let’s stop privatization and make sure health dollars go to patients not profits. Let’s pass the NDP’s Safeguard Our Seniors Act to protect seniors from abuse and protect whistleblowers from punishment.
And let’s increase seniors’ daily food allowance.
Show your support for better care for seniors. Tell us your story and join the NDP in the fight for working families.
