Hamilton Centre MPP Andrea Horwath blasted the McGuinty government’s environmental record today, Earth Day, for failing to disclose reports concerning toxic blaze at Biedermann Packaging last July.

NDP Environment Critic Peter Tabuns today slammed the McGuinty government for its continuing failure to present a comprehensive climate change plan.

“Another Earth Day has come and Dalton McGuinty still does not have a meaningful climate change plan for Ontario,” said Tabuns.

The McGuinty government’s worst kept secret is now official.

“Fresh on the heels of a massive $300-million cost overrun for the refurbishment of two nuclear reactors at Bruce Power, the McGuinty Liberals have finally announced they are seeking vendors to build two new nuclear reactors in Ontario. McGuinty’s expensive nuclear genie is now out of the bottle,” said NDP Leader, Howard Hampton.

MPP Andrea Horwath slammed the McGuinty government’s environment ministry for failing to review and update certificates for operating pollution- inducing factory smoke stacks.

A decision denying the community a review of Dofasco’s aging certificates under the Environmental Bill of Rights is “a real slap in the face to all the people who repeatedly suffered deluges of greasy soot in their homes and on their properties.”

NDP Leader Howard Hampton is calling on the McGuinty government to immediately change its rules regarding access to Crown lands for wind energy development.

“The Minister of Natural Resources’ new process for accessing Crown lands to develop wind-power excludes smaller, less-resourced wind energy companies,” Hampton said.

“The McGuinty government’s failure to undertake proper consultations with the Ardoch First Nation regarding uranium exploration on their traditional lands has ended with co-chief Robert Lovelace being sentenced to six months in jail and fined $25,000,” said NDP Environment Critic, Peter Tabuns.
