Young drivers the target of Liberals: Bisson

During today’s Question Period, NDP Transportation Critic Gilles Bisson wanted to know why young drivers are being targeted by the McGuinty Government.

Gilles Bisson (Timmins-James Bay) says a 16-year-old can get a private pilot’s licence and fly multiple passengers in a private plane. However under the new proposed legislation, the McGuinty Liberals are going to restrict the number of passengers allowed in a vehicle driven by a teenager, to just one.

SPIRALLING DRUG USE IN TEENS DEMANDS A SOLUTION

New Democrat Andrea Horwath says the McGuinty Liberals seem ready to write off a generation of young people who struggle with drug addiction like never before.

Today in the Ontario Legislature, the Hamilton East MPP urged the McGuinty government to address the growing demand for residential drug treatment programs in cities like Hamilton and Toronto. Ontario funds a mere two residential treatment facilities. Both have huge waiting lists.

$1 MILLION FOR DROP-IN CENTRES WILL HELP AT-RISK YOUTH

Ontario NDP Leader Howard Hampton today unveiled a $1-million donation to the United Way of Greater Toronto for youth drop-in centres.

Hampton made the announcement at the Community on the Move Resource Centre in the high-rise communities of Tretheway and Martha Eaton Way in North York. The centre is the first beneficiary of the $1-million Ontario NDP Marjorie Black Fund for Youth Drop-in Centres, in memory of Elizabeth and Alex Black.
