Ontario Legislature set to debate NDP Bill to allow inclusionary zoning

Prue demands answers on 2 Secord explosion and fire

Beaches—East York NDP MPP Michael Prue is demanding to know why the McGuinty government has remained silent on last summer’s transformer explosion and fire at 2 Secord Avenue.

Nearly 1,000 residents at 2 Secord, a highrise located in Prue’s riding, were evacuated from their homes on July 20, 2008. Some of the residents have not returned to their apartments.

Freeze Sky-Rocketing Rents: Dinovo to McGuinty

NDP Housing critic Cheri Dinovo called on the McGuinty Liberals to freeze Ontario rents for one year due to the economic crisis, by tabling a motion today at the Legislative Assembly.

“Renters from across Ontario have flooded our office with calls and emails. They’ve lost their jobs, had their hours cut back, and have seen their small businesses suffer,” said Dinovo. “They want to know, why, when they’ve not received a pay raise themselves, must their rents increase as though nothing was wrong?”

Prue wins victory for seniors living in granny flats

NDP MPP Michael Prue is pleased that seniors living in granny flats will finally get action from the provincial government.

“This is a long overdue victory for seniors who’ve been fighting to stay in their granny flats. To assess and tax a granny flat was completely unfair and I am pleased the McGuinty government will do the right thing and change the act,” Prue said.
