Bisson blasts MTO licensing practices

NDP Transportation Critic Gilles Bisson today questioned the effectiveness of the Ministry of Transportation’s driver licensing practices in the wake of several troubling incidents.

The latest cause for concern: the case of a Kingston-area man who managed to obtain a driver’s licence even after he received a lifetime driving ban for killing four people while driving drunk.

NDP MPP Gilles Bisson says Dalton McGuinty must regulate gasoline prices to protect Ontario consumers from the kind of gas price rip-offs drivers are experiencing at the pumps today.

“People work hard for their paychecks and they get really angry when the price suddenly shoots up 10 cents or more for no good reason. Ontario is the only jurisdiction east of Manitoba that has done nothing to protect its drivers from unscrupulous oil companies that care only about maximizing their profits,” Bisson said.

FERREIRA CALLS ON LIBERALS TO PROTECT CONSUMERS FROM PRICE GOUGING

NDP MPP Paul Ferreira says the McGuinty Government should protect consumers from gas gouging in the wake of gas station shutdowns.

“Drivers need to be protected from gas gouging,” said Ferreira. “Some stations have shut down, but that shouldn’t be an opportunity for others to start adding 5 cents a litre to their prices.”
