McGuinty’s negligence get charges tossed

NDP Justice critic Peter Kormos said the McGuinty Liberal’s negligence has brought the administration of justice into disrepute.

“Our justice system is in chaos and the McGuinty Liberals are ignoring the problem. It’s despicable that the biggest corruption investigation in the history of Canadian policing was thrown out because of unreasonable delays. Once again this proves that the McGuinty Liberals are just too incompetent to deal with the problems in our justice system,” said Kormos.

Hampton calls for increase to Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit to curb gun violence

NDP Leader Howard Hampton called on the McGuinty Liberals to take concrete action on the gun violence crisis in Toronto by increasing the Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU).

"No one should ever have to go through the pain of losing a loved one to gun violence. But too many are experiencing just that. What is needed from the Dalton McGuinty is some leadership to make our communities safer," Hampton said.

NDP Leader Howard Hampton today issued his condolences to the family of York Region Detective Constable Robert Plunkett, who was killed Thursday morning in the line of duty.

“Whenever we lose a police officer, it is a loss for the whole province,” said Hampton, a former attorney general who worked closely with police.

NDP Justice critic Peter Kormos demanded the McGuinty Liberals launch a full public inquiry into the racial death threats against black correctional officers in Toronto-area jails.

“The McGuinty Liberals have been silent while racism is at an all-time high in Toronto correctional facilities. Targeted black correctional officers have been faced with a surge of written racial threats resulting in a poisonous and dangerous work environment,” said Kormos.
