NDP MPP Cheri DiNovo stated Dalton McGuinty’s minimum wage violates Ontarians right to an adequate standard of living.

“The United Nations has stated that current minimum wage and social assistance rates in Ontario contravenes people’s right to an adequate standard of livings. It’s time Dalton McGuinty recognized that as well and raise the Ontario’s minimum wage to a living wage of $10.25 now,” said DiNovo.

OMB continues to run roughshod over Toronto council

Parkdale-High Park NDP MPP Cheri DiNovo has renewed her calls to reform the authority of the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB).

DiNovo has tabled a motion advocating that the powers of the OMB be curtailed so that it can no longer run roughshod over decisions made by the democratically-elected Toronto city council.

Inadequate funding jeopardizes full-day kindergarten

NDP MPP Cheri DiNovo went after the McGuinty Liberals for putting full-day kindergarten programs in jeopardy.

“Despite the McGuinty Liberal’s campaign promises, the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) will be forced to cut their effective full-day kindergarten program to cover budget shortfalls,” said DiNovo. “St. Thomas More School now stands to lose the program that inspired the McGuinty government's campaign promise.”

Only 486 Affordable Housing Units for Ontario's Low-Income Earners

In response to a question by NDP Housing Critic Cheri DiNovo, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Jim Watson admitted that Ontario has only 486 occupied rental and supportive units under its Affordable Housing Program that rent for under $500.
